Day 1 Thursday HAVANA
Arrival from Miami.
Enjoy a brief city
tour by bus into town from the airport followed by lunch at El Aljibe
After lunch we will continue to our hotel for an initial information
meeting and briefing about the program. Rooms will be ready at
about 4PM at which time we will check in. Balance of the afternoon at
leisure to unpack and relax before attending the Welcome Dinner at
Café del Oriente in Old Havana.
Old Havana was founded by the Spaniards in 1519 in the natural
harbor of the Bay of Havana. Now a UNESCO World Heritage
site, it is the core of the original city. The area contains interesting
architecture much of which has been restored by the Cuban
Day 2 Friday HAVANA
After breakfast at the hotel, Visit the
Cuban Council of Churches/Cuban Ecumenical Council. Meet
with Protestant leaders and CCC staff. Listen to an overview and
presentation about the Community in Cuba and the work of the
Council. Lunch today will be at El Tocororo Restaurant.
In the afternoon we will visit the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial
Center at the Baptist Church in the Havana municipalilty of
Marianao where we will meet with members of the Church and
the Center who will tell us about their work, community projects,
surrounding neighborhoods, etc. We will also have a chance to tell
them a little bit about our Church and our activities in the community.
Return to the hotel to rest and freshen up before Dinner and a
Jazz Concert or other Cultural evening (on own). (B,L)
Day 3 Saturday HAVANA
We will enjoy breakfast at our hotel
before listening to a brief presentation and overview by an architect
or other representative from the Office of the City Historian about the
restoration and renovation programs taking place in Old Havana and
the social welfare and community project they support. This will be
followed by a guided walk through the Old City area.
Lunch will be in another restaurant in the Old Havana area. After
lunch we'll continue walking in the area and pay a visit to one of the
community projects described in our sessions before returning to the
hotel. Dinner and cultural option (on own). (B,L)
Day 4 Sunday MATANZAS
This morning we will attend Church
services after breakfast at the hotel. Check out of the hotel at noon
and then continue for Sunday lunch at La Divina Pastora.
Our journey continues as we drive to Matanzas. Check in to the
hotel and get some rest before dinner at the hotel. Known for its
poets, culture, and Afro-Cuban folklore, this city is located on the
northern shore of the island of Cuba. It is also known as the City of
Bridges resulting from it's seventeen bridges which cross three rivers.
Day 5 Monday MATANZAS
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before
visiting the Evangelical Theological Seminary of Matanzas. Lunch
today will be here at the Seminary. Later in the afternoon we will
visit one of the Seminary's community projects in Matanzas and the
Christian Center for Reflection and Dialogue in Cardenas
before returning to the hotel. Dinner and local cultural
presentation (on own). (B,L)
Day 6 Tuesday MATANZAS
This morning after breakfast at the
hotel we will have a number of visits in Matanzas accompanied by a
expert from the City Historian's Office. This will include Ediciones
Vigia a unique book publisher where you will be able to browse
through hand-made books and Farmacia Colonial historical
chronology of Colonial times. We'll have lunch today at the Hotel
Velasco before visiting the Museum of the Route of the Slave, part of
the UNESCO International Route of the Slave Project.
Return to the hotel for dinner and cultural presentation (on own).
Day 7 Wednesday HAVANA
After breakfast, check out of the hotel.
Drive back to Havana. Lunch today will be en route. Depending upon
timing, continue visits in Havana before check in to hotel.

Day 8 Thursday
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel prior to check out and
departure for the airport and return flight to Miami. (B)
